How I Delivered a Killer Best Man Speech That Had The Audience Crying and Laughing at the Same Time

Public speaking was always a big fear and anxiety-inducing experience for me, going all the way back to high school.

However, just a few short months after starting Vinh’s course, I delivered the best man speech at my best friend of 25 years’ wedding to 150 people.

And I crushed it.

Half the crowd was crying and laughing at the same time, even a person I’d just met.

After the speech, my parents and friends came up to me, congratulated me, and told me how amazing the speech was.

My friend’s mom, who is like a second mother to me, was so grateful and appreciative of the speech I gave, because I took the opportunity to honor what the last 25 years had meant for all of us.

If you’ve ever been to a wedding, you know people sometimes ignore the speeches and just keep talking and drinking together.

But it was dead silent during my speech. The crowd was on the edge of their seats, hanging on every word.

I was even confident and comfortable enough to improvise a few times and joke around with my friend and the crowd without messing up my flow.

My Public Speaking Experience Before Taking the STAGE Academy Course

Before taking STAGE Academy, I wasn’t a total beginner when it comes to public speaking or being in the public eye.

I did a public speaking event when I was living in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2018.

I’ve also been interviewed on podcasts, and I started my own podcast in 2022.

However…

I was dead nervous before every single event.

When I say nervous, I mean nervous for weeks sometimes before the event.

At the public speaking event in Chiang Mai, I felt so much anxiety I nearly left the event before my talk.

(I even accidentally knee’d one of the audience members in the head as I walked up to the front. Talk about embarrassing!)

Before delivering my best man speech, I was nervous all day and for most of the week leading up to it.

However, I was also confident that I would deliver a powerful speech.

I was nervous, but I also knew that I could do it.

I kept in mind some of the vocal tips Vinh teaches at the beginning of the course, and I practiced my speech by recording it on my phone multiple times, listening to my voice, and making adjustments, as Vinh teaches.

I wasn’t able to fully shake off my nerves, especially as the time to do my speech got closer.

But I was prepared, I was ready for it, and I knew I’d probably do a good job.

I felt way better beforehand compared to my other speaking experiences.

I delivered my best performance to the largest crowd I’ve spoken in front of so far.

And I did it at one of the most important events I’ll probably ever do.

With that success under my belt, I’m more confident than ever when it comes to public speaking and communicating in the public eye.

And I’ll only get better from here, until I’m ready to take the world by storm and light up stages worldwide.
